Water Sources on San Jacinto

I stopped by the State Park Volunteer shop this afternoon and chatted with the guy at the counter and according to him, a team of volunteers went out on a water recon patrol on Sat 5-17 hiking up Devils Slide and had permission from park Rangers to enter the closure area east of the junction all the way out to Laws and they didn't find much. Tahquitz creek had some standing pools but according to him they weren't substantial. Wellman's and Strawberry were down to a trickle and just about everything on the westside is dry. Round Valley had a little bit of water left but it probably isn't going to last much longer.

Yipes. Seriously dry this year. I wonder how Bed Springs Crossing will do on the west side. That's the most reliable source I can think of up there.

Yep, we looked for water on Friday May 9 in the open Chinquapin zone and found NONE. The closest water to be found was in the creek draining the closed Little Tahquitz Meadow about 50-75 yards off the open hiking trail. This creek will not last long. My evil twin*, who violated my strict orders to stay out of the area, said there was absolutely no water in Skunk Cabbage Meadow.

We MIGHT get some rain in the local mountains later this week maybe even a bit of snow, also some lightning, do a rain dance for some precipitation. I follow several meteorologists that specialize in fire weather and what happens this week is a bit of a toss up.

Planning a trip with a group of Boy Scouts this weekend (May 24, 25, 26) hiking up the Marian Mountain Trail to Little Round Valley. Does anyone have current water availability on this route? It isn't sounding great, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

There should be water at Bed Springs Crossing which is point 7 on the map on my blog post on SJ water sources. There will probably be water at Lilly Spring and possibly at Deer Springs Crossing as well. Little Round Valley stands a good chance off being dry.

Hi. I'm planning to dayhike Marion to peak roundtrip on May 31st - only my 2nd time - and would love to find water up there.

I wonder, is Bed Springs xing unmissable or do you really have to keep your eyes peeled after Deer Springs Camp. I don't suppose theres a GPS waypoint available?

It's pretty difficult to miss. As Jim mentioned it's one of the most reliable water sources on the mountain and it crosses the trail. Have fun Saturday.

Bed Springs "Crossing" is where the water from Bed Springs literally crosses the trail. You'll know you're there because your feet will be wet. (You can't miss it)

I talked to a friend who was up this weekend. He said that Deer Springs had water. I'm not sure how much longer Deer Springs will flow this year. It was dry by July 4th last year.
