Yes, temps are tolerable for going UP. What it's not good for is going down. What if you again experience problems and need to descend and for whatever reason don't get down by 10 a.m? By eleven a.m. descending will be extremely unpleasant. By three, well beyond unpleasant.

It heats up quick, with that sun baking on you its not all about air temp. You're subjecting yourself to this for 7-8 hrs? It's not going to be comfortable at all. This is the time of year when all the trouble happens. And it usually involves people that don't live in the desert. I'm with Cynthia...wait till fall.

Or you can think we don't know what we're talking about and getting sleep and skipping the beer is going to make the difference

Hi Cynthia. The predicted high for Saturday is just 89. Not bad. Coming down in 89 degrees would be a bit warm but not dangerous. I did Skyline the previous 3 weeks since the weather was nice, then I skipped last weekend due to the heat (I checked the predicted highs...), but I can see giving it a go this weekend. Is it turning out cooler than you were thinking? Did you want to squeeze in one last Skyline before summer?

Brian, sorry to hear about last weekend's unpleasant turn of events. I think you're right about the beer the night before. I don't like to have anything at all with alcohol the day or night before a hard sustained effort. I find that sends me in already dehydrated, which is obviously a bad idea. I have better results if the night before I go with some salty chips or popcorn, some soda with sugar, then finish the night with a couple of bottles of water. I wake up prehydrated and feel better the whole time I'm on the trail. Have fun! I might go, though it'll be an early one for me since I've got to be done, home, showered and at work by 11:00, so I'll have to start by 4:00, then take the first tram down. If you're starting before me we'll likely see each other.

I have studied and planned for C2C, and appreciate all the advice. It's those not reading/writing on this board that I worry about. TR to follow...think cool thoughts.

People that have studied and planned have died on that trail.

Ive met them on it in the morning, smiling and happy. gone by the end of the day

this time of year is not about planning....its about heat conditioning.
