Jim,

Sorry about the forum problem. I work as a Sr. IT Analyst and would be glad to work on the problem gratis. Looks like it may require working with your web host to sort out.

One of the common causes of that error is a mismatch between the MySQL database version and the PHP MySQL libraries, which could happen if the web host upgrades the database without upgrading all the language libraries (PHP, Perl, Python, etc.).

You can confirm that is the problem if you have access to phpMyAdmin through your web host control panel. If you login to phpMyAdmin and see something like this message at the bottom, that is the problem:

Your PHP MySQL library version 4.1.15 differs from your MySQL server version 5.0.45. This may cause unpredictable behavior.

Maybe it's just a damaged database file, but if there is a problem with PHP, and your host does upgrade it, then the version of phpBB might need to be upgraded as well (latest is 3.0.12).

Anyway, PM or email me if I can help in any way.

Keith

I'm sorry to hear about these problems, and I too would be willing to donate some $ to keep the forum going. PM me as needed Perry.

Obviously this is off topic, but since there's no way to create a new post, and since I feel it's a fairly urgent matter ...

The Desert Sun printed a (tiny) article today that on March 28, a worker at the O"Donnell golf course --the small golf course that is directly adjacent to the bottom of the Desert Museum/Skyline--was "charged" by a mountain lion. The worker ran behind an iron gate and slammed it shut and the mountain lion retreated. Mountain lion tracks were found.

It's not news that there are mountain lions around, but it's troubling that this cougar actually charged the worker. Assuming this is accurate that represents a disturbing new trend. There have been three ML sightings in the past months in the valley floor, i.e. city streets and golf courses. This suggests that the severe drought has deprived the MLs of their normal prey and that they're very hungry. Of the recorded attacks on humans, most seem to involve cougars that are severely malnourished, i.e. desperate enough to attack a human being.

Be alert, don't wear earbuds while hiking or running, and don't go alone.

Sorry to hijack the thread but better than being eaten, right?

Hopefully we find out the circumstances here. Pretty late in the day to be at that elevation, and the post states they are stranded but uninjured.

Jim H. and Keith, thank you both for the suggestions and offers to help. I'll email you guys tomorrow night...

Hopefully there's an easy solution to this. If, however, it involves very tedious code changes and hours of research, it appears there are enough offers of funding to make it worth your time.
