Forum Problems 4/8/2014

Postby Hikin_Jim » Mon May 13, 2013 8:22 pm

The forum is having some technical problems. Creating new topics does not seem to be working. See sample error message below. This is a general error and is not your fault.

If I'm understanding things correctly, there have been some server upgrades that our forum can't handle. We may have to install a newer version of PhP in order to fix the problem, which means that there may be no quick fix.

In the mean time, replies seem to be working -- even if you get an error message.

Replies are definitely working even though you get an error message.

Clever way to make this work HJ. One question for both you and Perry. I realize there may be a cost to the upgrade/repair. I've been using this board for fun and friendship for years at zero cost - I'll certainly be willing to chip in to help defray the expense. I bet others will also. Let us know when you figure out what needs to be done.

Yeah, I just repurposed an old post that wasn't relevant any more. I thought it would be nice for people to a) know that it wasn't just them or their fault and that b) we're aware of the problem.

I'm going to have to let Perry respond to that one. I'd be willing to chip in to if it came to it.

Okay, it's bad enough to have the error message. Not being able to start a new topic is a problem. The offers to help fund a fix are very kind. Thank you. I did read about another method for upgrading the forum which people have reported success using after trying other methods that did not work. If I need to hire a PHP and MYSQL expert, then some funds would be helpful.

The earliest I'll be able to do something is next week. Our taxes are more complicated than ever, and at least one of us works every day (sometimes both of us on the same day) and the other person watches Lily.

One quick fix is to start a fresh forum with the latest software and then figure out later how to combine the old posts and profiles.

I'm in for 'fund a fix.'

If you need some technical help, I may be able to help or refer you to someone that can.

Help

Postby JH_FreeSpan » Thu Apr 10, 2014 8:17 am

I don't post here often but I have benefited greatly from this site. I appreciate it.

I know a fantastic PHP / Mysql guy if you need one.

I of course would pitch in as well.

Key file

Postby JH_FreeSpan » Thu Apr 10, 2014 8:28 am

In case it helps, it appears there is a problem with your phpbb_search_wordlist table or its key file. There are some third party repair tools that can help find and repair these types of problems.
