Agreed. Micro spikes are not necessary unless it is really cold. Certainly after a couple hours of sun, the remaining snow softens up nicely. There is still some snow on the trails but nothing that should bother the reasonably sure-footed. Terrific hike. Wasn't such a clear day on top, but that didn't spoil the day. Makes me want to explore more of the MSJ State Park. Californians are spoiled when it comes to recreation opportunities. Also, water is wet, the sky is blue and lava is hot.
