Tram to San Jacinto Peak

Hello I am planning to drive up from San Diego to hike up San Jacinto Peak from tram station. I wanted to know if there is snow or just patches of snow and ice. Will micro spikes be enough for the hike? How difficlut is the hike to the peak? I have never done it with snow.

Just hiked from Palm Springs to summit via Sky Line trail on Tuesday. We saw 2men with micro spikes near summit. I put spikes on from summit for 2 miles to Round Valley.....only because I had carried them for 10+ miles.

Were they required? Planning on attempting the tram to summit hike on friday. Pretty excited. Maybe we should just get them and bring them and return them if not needed?

My daughter and I did Tram to Peak a week ago. Micros not needed but nice to have in some spots. There maybe a little snow coming in this week, probably not much. Go ahead and get the Microspikes and bring them, but don't return the spikes if you don't use them as there will be other opportunities.

Wow, glad you linked the photos and thanks for the info will definitely pick up some microspikes. This is our first time doing the hike and are super excited. Also glad we saw your pics weren't sure how cold it would get at the top. Looks pretty frosty! We have hiking poles and they really make the hike easier on the legs!

Sorry for late post/comment. I went up last Friday and the Ranger said we would need micro spikes at least for the decent and he was right. We crossed path we a few hikers and many or most had micro spikes on. Some parts were easy no challenge but others were harder because of snow/ice conditions. Coming down from the peak spikes would of mande life easier and faster. We were just a bit cautious and it was our first time hiking with snow and ice. I would take micro spikes and poles they will help a lot and make the hike easier, at least for me.

Good to know will be picking up some microspikes at rei tonight before our drive up to palm springs. Excited to hike this tomorrow!

I pulled a muscle on my right thigh sunday and yesterday pulled back muscle, going to power through been planning this hike for a few weeks!!

Hi, I was planing on going up to the summit on Easter Sunday for the egg hunt. Ok, scratch the eggs, but am wondering if you thought I would need micro spikes at that time of year?
