Excellent day, no kidding about the stats. I've been thru there in the late 80's (didn't think to look for registers) and know just how indirect the terraine is. Great photos & descriptions of your route. Btw, is the big pool in lower north fork of Sheep dug out at all or still filled in? Thanks for posting, really enjoyed it.

Enjoyed the trip report Eric. Haven't been out to Collins Valley in a few years. Love that area. Saw a pack of wild mustangs out there once about 10-12 years ago. Thought I was hallucinating, but they were for real.

You didn't mention in your report if you drove to the Sheep Canyon trail head? I always used to park at Lower Willows and hike up the by-pass road. That road used to be so gnarly that you needed a high clearance 4x4 to get up there. How's the by-pass road now? Was there any water flowing in the Sheep Canyon?

3 creek crossings were OK in my street car, but hiked from jeep hill.

You show some of the sacred sage which abounds downstream of the Native American reservation.

Who would expect such thick vegetation out there?

anybody - Why is that little pile at the boottom right called "Monkey Hill"?

You had too many stunningly good lighting opportunities for me to put all of those pix here, but folks, his link is totally worth perusing.

We drove to the sheep canyon th in my 4wd Chevy Silverado with no problem. There was also a subaru there so it's not too bad. There is one steep rocky section where you definitely need some clearance and 4wd was nice to have.
