Falling Rock Canyon 1/24

Howdy All :)

Headed up with Marilyn.

Looking up Falling Rock Canyon (FRC) after bypassing the dry falls at the bottom.

My hiking buddy, Miracle Marilyn.

Looking back down the canyon from whence we came

Image

We've hiked out of FRC via the talus/scree slope and attained the ridge that will take us to Ontario peak. Looking back at Sugarloaf peak (left bump).

Image

The route follows the ridge up, switching from side to side. Looking up at the western shoulder of Ontario peak.

Image

Getting higher, closer to Ontario's left shoulder. I wonder if that canyon is doable without technical gear.

Image

Looking back at Glendora Ridge road.

Image

Looking at Baldy from the summit of Ontario peak.

Image

Looking at the San Gabriels from Ontario.

Image

Looking south from Ontario.

Image

Heading up the use trail to Big Horn peak -- looking at Cucamonga peak.

Image

Looking at Baldy from Big Horn peak. What's that bloody blonde doing in the picture? Pay no attention to the gleaming metal item in her left hand.

Image

Heading down the ridge before we turn left and drop into Icehouse Saddle.

Image

We're now descending Icehouse canyon. I think that peak in the distance is Lookout.

Image

Right after this picture, Marilyn declared that she saw no new blood -- shh...don't jinx the hike

It was a lovely overcast day.

Pictures AND narration! You're really getting the hang of it!

Did you get any pics on our Sunday Baldy hike? I didn't and I am kicking myself because it was such a pretty day.

Great hike and post, Ellen.

Dang, we need some snow....

Your signal mirror is unique, serving also as an emergency reserve for fluids.

And yes, dat be Lookout Mtn. - and whatisthat agrees, too.

stay warm,

Howdy Arocknoid :)

Yes, the paucity of snow is depressing :(

I love your allusion to my (ahem) signal mirror

Had a lovely hike up FRC with Sally and Carole last Wed. There was enough white stuff that we benefited from our microspikes. The temperature was even brisk enough that I didn't overheat in long sleeves and pants.

Looking forward to trying some new routes -- Good canyon to Baldy, for example.

Miles of smiles,
Ellen
