I successfully summited Mt San Jacinto last Wed (10/3). My friend (who I convinced) and I traveled to Palm Springs from Columbus, Ohio just to hike the Cactus to Clounds trail. We took all of your posted advice. We started the hike at 4:20 am at the Museum. We both each carried 2 gallons of water & Gatorade and guess what? It wasn't enough to reach the tram. My friend who is athletic and slim consumed his ration by the time we reached 7,000'. I shared my remaining bottle of Gatorade and we reached the Tram station in 7 hours. After reloading with Gatorade I pushed on to the summit solo. My friend decided that he had enough excitement for one day. I reached the summit in 3 hours.
I'm so glad my running buddies at the FrontRunner in Columbus told me about this eat hike. I also thank you for providing all of the technical advice. YOU ARE SO RIGHT WHEN YOU STRONGLY ENCOURAGE HIKERS TO CARRY MORE LIQUIDS THAN EXPECTED. We were lucky. Our supply lasted just short of the Tram ridge.
