I just stumbled upon this site as i was looking for more info on this trail. I want to do this trail sometime next week and I have no clue what it's like out there. I'm from the PNW and I'm in So Cal for the holidays. I heard about the 6 pack of peaks and I want it! how was the weather up there and did you need to bring crampons and ice axes? is it 11miles one way? do I need to pick up the permit b4 i hit the trail and is the ranger station at the bottom open all week long? is the trail hard to follow?? is the trail marked?? sorry for all the questions but i find alot of the trails out here are unmarked and wonky. lol....maybe i relied too much on the whiteblazes on the east coast. Any and all recent info would help me plan my hike. also is the trail dog friendly? Congrats on your completion of C2C. y'all got me fired up
Having done it once, I'll do my best to answer what I can and leave the rest to the many experts here:
1. No ice tools of any kind needed until another storm comes through
2. Our C2C was about 20 miles total, with 11 miles round-trip from ranger station to tram
3. Permit only needed for the last 11 miles, get it at ranger station on top upon your arrival...self service
4. There is a "main" trail with alternatives at times, except at the base of Coffman's Crag where you must go LEFT up the ravine if you simply choose the UP path you should be OK...much info on this site to fine tune this although you will find white and orange dots to be helpful at times
5. Saw a service dog on the top of San Jacinto but it did not come from the valley floor
Thanks to all for the congrats...we're still on a high from the day and looking forward to getting back on the Skyline trail
