Anyone going Saturday 9/29

Cy, thanks for posting this hike, I had a great time. This was my first time doing C2C, and my first time to San Jacinto State Park. Tony, Elise and I made it to the peak at 10:30 and we were back at the tram at about 1:30. The weather was beautiful, and I met some great people. I will definitely be back to see more of the State Park.

Unfortunately my truck was one of the vehicles broken into. Fortunately I had nothing of value in the car, and nothing was taken. It appears the thieves just smashed my drivers side window and then opened the glove box to discover there was nothing in there. I called the police to report it, but I don't feel like waiting around for them to take a report.

Sorry to hear about your truck. I'm glad to hear it didn't spoil your trip.

I don't know what time you started, but here's a thought. Maybe in the future we should all consider leaving most of the cars in the tram lot at 5:30 and then carpooling over to the museum. One car exposed is better than 4, I guess. Anyway, congrats on your first trip! Good job!

Cy - Udi and I left at 3:45AM and only one car (blue color) had been vandalized at that time. They must have come back later to hit more cars. The couple who gave a us lift from the tram back to museum happened to be at the museum about 9AM and saw the multiple piles of glass along the street so we were worried. Because the street parking was full, Udi and I and someone else parked in the museum parking lot near the trailhead and weren't hit by the vandals.

I went over the top in exactly 51/2 hours. Udi's ankle slowed him down and it took him a little over 6hours. We continued up to MSJ and got back to the tram at about 3:45PM for 12 hours total. On the way up I passed Kathy below Flat Rock and the SC slow group was in the trees but still below the crag. Both Kathy and SC group continued to the peak because we saw them both as we descended.

Thanks to Udi for joining me. He got me back on the trail the few times I missed turns in the dark.

Is there a place to park within a few blocks of the museum that would be safer to park (more traffic and lights)? Also, did the police get notified? Maybe they will think about driving around the Museum more if they know there's a problem.

Cy - Was this the busiest night ever for the C2C? In addition to the 12 of you, we passed four guys below the half way point (Jared's group?). There was a solo hiker sitting on the half way marker when we got there. We passed Kathy's partner heading down the hill from the half way marker and Kathy by Flat Rock. That's 21 total! - Dave

I was thinking the same thing Kathy. Next time I am going to look for a place that is more in public view to park. I think who ever broke in to the cars knew they were hikers, who might leave behind there wallets, cell phones, or anything else of value.. My guess is it happened between 2:30 and 3:30, and I think all 3 cars were hit at the same time. Dave my not have seen the other 2 because they were broken into on the passenger side. I did call the police and let them know, and the Honda that was broken into had a note from the police department left on it.

The police were notified. They often drive past the museum in the early morning but didnt expect anyone to start around midnight. I dont know of any other areas to park but will start looking for a good place.
Dave - 21 must be a record for this time of year. You will only see more in November and April.

Is it possible that the car vandals are reading this bulletin board to determine when they can score?

My heart goes out to those whose cars were vandalized. Skyline and C2C are difficult enough without having to deal with vehicle damange inflicted by criminals

I suggest an experiment: List a departure time and make sure we all know that you plan to park at 200 South Civic Drive in Palm Springs.
