I had a teacher in elementary school who invented that approach. Kid A was a bully. He beat the crap out of kid B for no reason. The teacher punished both because they were fighting.

Okay Alan, your intent is to put forth a political point of view. This is not the place to do it. Perhaps start another thread in the appropriate section? This thread is meant to be informational for those who need to know if a given trail is open. Arguing politics here is hijacking the intent of the thread.

OK, Zip, I removed the link, which did lead to an article with a political point of view, but the fact is that politics is interfering with many otherwise non-political activities right now.

The thing I don't get is why they need to close dirt. A visitor center? Sure. A museum? Sure. I get that. But land that hasn't essentially changed from the beginning of time? That smacks of political opportunism. "Our opponent has cause the shutdown of the government, therefore let us make political hay by deliberately exacerbating things by closing swaths of unimproved land, land in its natural state."

Land that has existed in its natural state for millions of years and needs no supervision has no need of being "closed" -- except for political effect.

P.S. Yes, I know this is a bit political -- but I'm not being partisan. Indeed, I like having multiple political parties. Having one political party be so out to lunch that they commit in effect political suicide is not to my liking at all. A one party system scares the dickens out of me. Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Now the RV guy has a free place to live and doesn't even have to open the gate. :)

That's exactly what the vets did at the WWII memorial.

Yes, the Retardicans are responsible for the shut down, but the Dumbocrats and their grandstanding (deliberately making the public feel the pain of the closure even where completely unnecessary) aren't any better.

I suggest we all hike up Skyline and meet at the top on Saturday! Or at least meet at the top via the tram if we are carrying vast quantities of items designed for cooking and eating. There we can theorize on solving all the world's problems - or have a good time, whichever we choose. Either way, it'll be fun to be on Skyline again.

And Alan, if you are there I'll be happy to hear your thoughts on politics. I myself have something of a fatalistic attitude with regard to such matters, but that doesn't mean I'm against your point of view. How's that boy of yours with his running?
