Thanks to a surprise birthday gift from Arocknoid, I now have new optical devices to protect my peepers when I'm trying to view wildlife in the wilderness.

I for one would love a Cliff's notes for wildlife viewing but will never ask our 'Noid where these lovelies were spotted.

arocknoid wrote:Wildlife viewing is one of my favorite activities in our local mountains. Even when trails are busy with bipeds there are ways and byways by which one can observe the larger herbivores.

I am surprised and disappointed to hear the common refrain that most hikers rarely --if ever at all-- see the bighorns and deer which inhabit our favorite hiking haunts. A Cliff's notes of tips for viewing might be in order. (maybe later...)

Just don't ask me where, or other such details; also, I'll tend to avoid posting any big buck or bighorn ram photos. By way of avoiding inducement to other folks perusing this board...

Howdy Ellen,

50,000 bonus points --as Ed McMahon used to say toThe Great Karmack, "You are correct !" on all counts.

James' character was not a shapeshifter, and was more like a giant carrot--more vegetable than animal.
"Get the attention of deer by making a noise like a giant carrot." oh, really

(as an aside, in retrospect I realize that except for Gloria Swanson, all previous post references reflect zero or one degrees of separation. Bacon not included ;)

I'll work on compiling the Cliff's Notes; other posts included tips embedded in the tale (owza!).

c ya out there,
