Baldy Bowl Bathing Suit Brigade

Postby Ellen » Sat Sep 14, 2013 8:11 pm

Howdy All :)

Struggled up Register to the peak, then headed down the Ski Hut (Baldy Bowl) trail. After passing the ski hut, I started running into numerous young fellas and gals climbing up wearing bathing suits

I finally "bit" and asked -- a cheerful young guy responded casually, "Well, we heard there was a beach up here somewhere..."

I learned later from Miguel Forjan that it was the annual Pomona College Baldy Speedo hike. They were so pleasant and cheerful that I didn't mind stepping of the trail repeatedly.

Hikin' Jim -- of course I don't have pictures

I don't think I could carry enough suncreen to hike in two-piece bathing suit

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

The Claremont Colleges club (Scripps, McKenna, H. Mudd, Pomona etc) is called OTL, inspired by the book "On The Loose," by the Rennie brothers back in the 70s. I still have my 1st Ed from a leetle college bookstore way back then...

The brothers didn't do any hikes in bathing suits, however. But the hiking shorts were *ahem* short like ol' bud's Tom S (fight on!) on Magnum. (another connection-- Elisha Cook, Jr. used to hang out and fish up in the Bishop and Lone Pine area)

kind regards,
