nice pic's eric. it seems a lot of fun to hike in weather like that as it changes the whole scenic view every few minutes. I cant wait for one of those kind of days.

Hi, Eric,

Looks like a fantastic hike in what I consider some of the best mountain country in Southern California.

Interesting route you took up to Marion Mountain from the Deer Springs Trail. Just curious, had you done that route before? I've gone up from the DST a couple of times, but I usually go from around the Marion Mountain Trail Jct or Deer Springs Camp rather than going over past the Fuller Ridge Trail.

You've got a some errors on your photos. You've got the following photos with Jean Peak mismarked as "Marion Mountain:"

Nice report. I like the links at the end.

Hi Jim

I was considering the route from Deer Springs Camp, but when I reached the drainage, everything around it was muddy and trickling with water due to strong thunderstorms the previous day. I consulted the map and noticed a soft ridge to the north, which would be considerably drier. Later I found out that those storms had dumped over 2 inches of rain in a matter of hours!

Thanks for pointing out the mislabelings in photos. Edmund Perkins would probably very much approve! (Perkins conducted the topographical survey in 1897, naming peaks after his girlfriends: Jean Waters and Marion Kelly. He later dumped Marion and married Jean.)

Makes sense.

Yeah, well I talked to Jean about it, and she had a few suggestions:

Totally hilarious Jim. Always amused by the great commentary. Am doing deer springs to s.j. peak in the morning. First time on the trail and first time to the peak. :D

If I'm not mistaken that's a state park worker's tent. The rules don't apply to them you know.
