The Seven Summits of San Jacinto -- Trip Report

Once again, its awsome to put your trip in my minds eye as i read your trip and photos report. Looking forward to getting back into the mountains tommorrow with my son. We're taking one of my sons friends up to a camp for people with special needs, then we're planning to go up a trail south of bigbear lake to view san gragornio. Never done this, and dont know if theres even a trail for this, but we'll see. If anyone has an idea of such a trail, please share.

As for a trail, the trail from Aspen Glen picnic area to Grandview Point is a nice one on a clear day.

Should be good stuff. Here's a web site with a preview of what you'll be able to see. Looks like you can see San Bernardino Pk, E SB Pk, Anderson, Shields, San Gorgonio, Lake, and Grinnell, all 10,000 footers in the San G wilderness. Assuming it's clear like today, you should have one heck of a view.

Thanks jim, my son and i had agreat afternoon run up the trail. Somewhat similar to areas in sj, and the view at the top was majestic...alot of people were on the trails mounrain biking, but not too much traffic. Skies were clear and blue as the ocean, and the fog was non existent except when i looked towards sj peak. As for pic's, i need to learn how to do this.

Went up Marion to LRV to Newton Drury today. Weather was stellar and the trail was loamy and soft from the rain yesterday.
Water flowing at good volume both Deer Springs and Bed Springs. Saw no water at the creek in LRV.
Followed HJ's route from LRV to the saddle to ND. Great climbing rocks and amazing krummholz. Thanks so much for your generosity in sharing all your good routes, HJ.

Isn't that fun stuff over in there? Drury is one of the easier off trail peaks in the San Jacintos. Ten, maybe fifteen, minutes to the saddle from LRV, and another maybe five to the summit. I'm not sure why, but there are some really interesting "bent wood" (krummholz) there. When I was there last November, it was getting a battering. It does jut out to the west, so perhaps whatever gets funneled up over the LRV gap knocks the dickens out of Drury Peak? Dunno.
