Cool.

Hey, Tarol, where are you getting your info? I know you're posting regularly here, but say you're out of town. Where can we get info on our own?

8/15/13: Currently the following hiking trails and wilderness campgrounds open are as follows until further notice. Trails are Deer Springs trail, 7 Pines trail, and Marion Mountain trail to the San Jacinto peak. Strawberry Junction and Little Round Valley are open for wilderness camping (permit required) based on first come first serve availability.

I just called (1:26 Pm) to verify the info is updated and accurate

I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you 8)

I'd get it by calling Idyllwild or by going to the SBNF website

SBNF is doing a significantly better job than other forests.

I'm completely serious. Maps posted by SBNF are *always* clearer than ANF. The campfire permit information is much clearer on the SBNF site (although I'd like to see them improve the SBNF site). I've completely given up on getting current info on anything on the ANF site.

Write them a letter

I was just looking at their monthly rec reports. Looked like it had a lot of good info, but the format and different fonts gave me a headache.

Hiked from Humber Park to Tahquitz Peak via Devil's Slide trail this morning. Viewing from the trail south of Saddle Junction there are lots of brown trees visible across Tahquitz Valley area. Like the needles got hot enough to turn brown but weren't totally engulfed in flames. Not sure if trees damaged like that will recover. I would guess some might recover but many will not. There are also some smaller areas with trees totally black with no needles left at all. Pretty sure those trees are dead. There were 2 or 3 small smoking hotspots visible. This is still an active fire area.

From Tahquitz Peak it's sobering to see where the fire started and then trace its path around 180°.
