Ramon Road to 5K on 9/22

I just quit smoking in June, gained some weight, but still in fairly good shape, and now that it's starting to get cooler I want to get back into hiking/camping.

I'm planning to hike from Ramon Rd. to the 5K level this Sunday, 9/22.

If anyone is interested in this morning day hike, please email me.

Wow, look at that forecast! I was planning on running at lower altitude, but I may have to do C2C if it's actually going to snow in September!

Incidentally, hvydrt, you'll be fine biking back down. That's how I do it about 1/2 the time, and you'll coast all the way to hwy 111, then a little pedaling here and there will carry you all the way back. It's not a problem at all. One word of caution: If you're planning on starting before about 5:30 a.m., the tram road is closed at night and you'll have to wait til 5:30 to drive the bike up and leave it. Either that, or you can drive it up the evening before. Just don't let the locked gate catch you off guard, plan on it being open after about 5:30, but not before.

I've been watching the weather and, as I suspected, the chance of rain looks slim. Should be good weather. Any signs of thunderheads and I'll turn back.

Howdy All

As Z pointed out, the weather tommorow (Saturday) looks fabulous for Skyline to the tram. The high in Palm Springs will be in the low 80's with possibly a few showers.

Is anyone going? With this weather, I wouldn't have to leave so early to avoid the heat

Yesterday was the perfect day for a hike up. The clouds provided plenty of shade all the way to the 5K level. Some spitting rain, which was much like the misters at a downtown PS cafe, very refreshing, sometimes a bit chilling, but after a summer of blazing heat, it honestly felt good, just because it was different.

Did you see Ellen or other hikers on the trail.? I was thinking of going but it was raining in San Bernadino and I didn't wand to chance the wet freeway. It is so seldom that you have cloud cover there. There might be a little snow above the tramway today.

No, I don't think that I saw Ellen. There were very few other hikers on the trail above the 2K level that I saw and none of them women.

Wet freeways can be a real hazard, especially after a long dry spell.

If there was any snow, I'm sure it didn't last long as there were no clouds today.

I'm thinking of doing it again this coming weekend, but this time to the top and take the tram down, or I'm planning on taking the tram up, camping, then coming down. Not quit sure yet.
