I'm still in IDY the sherrifs woke me up at 3:30 am took my name and asked who my dentist was and said it's up to us if we leave or not. There are too many fire trucks posted up in Idy to count. The smoke and ash were bad for the first time since this started this morning. But thing's are looking up at the moment. I only got 2 hour's sleep last night and have been out most of the morning checking things out from what I have been told less than 1/2 of our beutifull town has desided to head down the hill. It's weard and spooky people are out walking there dog cars are driving around. If it wastent for the smoke you'd almost think it was a normal weekday and it's anything but. I'm ready to go at a moments notice.

Doesn't the fire retardant stain the rocks?
Sad to see such a dense forest burn especially one that gives so many locals a way out of the heat. I haven't hiked anything besides the trams to peak area and C2C and palm canyon and now we are going to have to wait for it to grow back.

This latest map shows the fire has burned down the West Fork almost all the way to the Trading Post.

Last night, it looked like it was in the Tahquitz drainage because there was a glow coming from behind the ridge.

Let's hope they can make some progress today because the weather tomorrow calls for a slight chance of thunderstorms which could bring gusty winds and lightning.

Latest fire map shows that the fire has overtopped the Red Tahquitz - Sam Fink Peak ridge and moved slightly down hill into the Tahquitz Creek drainage.

The spot that the PCT does a big "U" shaped turn around Red Tahquitz has burned. :(

Sure doesn't seem to be slowing today.

Tram's website now states it is closed.

And I would imagine that orange retardant is going to stain and stick for a while, since we probably won't have drenching rains to wash it off the mountain.

Prayers to all involved.

I'm not sure if I really want to know the answer to this question, but have to ask: does anybody know if the lookout is still there?

Tahquitz Peak lookout? That is untouched still according to the map. Is there another look out in the area? I haven't been to any.

I just cringed so f*ing hard when I read this sentence...

"The fire was human-caused, but authorities say they do not know the exact cause."

Whoever did this should get thrown in the fire. Sorry. :)

Just got an email from one of the Tahquitz fire lookout leaders who said that the lookout is still standing (whew).

In the picture that greatshaitan posted the fire looked pretty darn close to Tahquitz Peak.

Yeah Steve if it makes it it will probably have a strange red, black, gray hue to the exterior.

Pretty amazing old structure. Built in 1933. It has withstood quite a bit over the past 80 years
