Interesting. I wonder where the heck he found water. Usually the best spot is right above where the trail crosses the creek flowing out of LRV. If that's dry and the creek is dry in the meadow, I'm not aware of another place to go.
Take a look at
this map of LRV.
A = the trail crossing of the creek bed just below LRV that I mentioned earlier. This is typically the best place to find water although it's by NO means 100%. Water pools just above the trail.
B = the meadow itself. In good years, water will be flowing even in late season in the meadow. 2013 is not a good year.
C = the gully NNW of LRV. I've always wondered if there might be water here. I wouldn't bet on it, but maybe.
D = the water source between "Deer Springs" and LRV. This water source is often running a lot better than Deer Springs itself.
