water at deer springs?

was thinking of going up fuller ridge and camping at little round valley. I understand that little round valley is dry, but any water at deer springs?

I hike fuller ridge to the peak Saturday 6/15. deer springs is flowing, and there is a spring flowing 1/2 mile before LRV. there very little water at LRV, pretty much dry I would carry it with you from before.

Went up Marion Mountain yesterday. Deer Springs is almost dry. The spring between Deer Springs and LRV is flowing nicely. LRV appeared bone dry, but I spoke with a backpacker who said he found water there.

Interesting. I wonder where the heck he found water. Usually the best spot is right above where the trail crosses the creek flowing out of LRV. If that's dry and the creek is dry in the meadow, I'm not aware of another place to go.

Take a look at this map of LRV.

A = the trail crossing of the creek bed just below LRV that I mentioned earlier. This is typically the best place to find water although it's by NO means 100%. Water pools just above the trail.
B = the meadow itself. In good years, water will be flowing even in late season in the meadow. 2013 is not a good year.
C = the gully NNW of LRV. I've always wondered if there might be water here. I wouldn't bet on it, but maybe.
D = the water source between "Deer Springs" and LRV. This water source is often running a lot better than Deer Springs itself.

Don't know. I didn't go off trail to look so I only saw your spots A & B. I though he might have found something above the meadow (east). He did say he thought it would likely be dry within a few days. I almost ventured up the PCT at the Fuller Ridge junction to see if the North Fork is flowing where the trail crosses. That is usually a pretty reliable source, but then again so is Deer Springs.

The potential water source I'm identifying just north of LRV is the North Fork of the San Jacinto River. If you look at this map, I think you'll see what I mean.

A is the potential water source North of LRV. Trace it down stream, and you'll see that it crosses the Fuller Ridge Trail at point "B".

Thanks Jim. I'm hoping someone will pick up on this thread who has been over Fuller Ridge recently and post the water situation at the North Fork.

I beleive the Seven Pines trail also crosses the North Fork. Wonder what it's like over there?

we just got back last night from 2 night stay at LRV via the fuller ridge trail. There was water with good flow on the fuller ridge trail about .5 mile before the junction with the deer springs trail. From there we went directly to LRV on the deer springs trail and there was water with good flow about .5 mile before LRV. The creek in the LRV meadow was totally dry but my son and wife said that they saw a little stagnant water when they were exploring the "owl hootch" camp sight (the one on the other side of the meadow from the trail). We didn't see water north of LRV.

From Jim's map, it looks like there's another water source that crosses both the deer springs trail and the fuller ridge trail south of the north fork. That looks to me like the two creeks that we crossed. is this the south fork?

Sam,

No, that's not the S. Fork. That's just another branch of the N. Fork. If I understand things correctly, the upper portion is referred to as Bed Springs.

The water flowing from Deer Springs is the main branch of the N. Fork of the San Jacinto River.

The S. Fork is quite a bit further south. Lake Hemet flows into the S. Fork of the San Jacinto River.
