Kats Crew Peak?

Postby Wild » Fri Jun 07, 2013 2:09 pm

From peakbagger.com, http://www.peakbagger.com/peak.aspx?pid=-19132

There's a peak here named Kats Crew Peak. Anyone ever heard of this before? Is it just someone who decided to name the peak and tag it on pb.com? Just wondering if it's an actual local name or something.

Thanks :)

Oh and while I'm at it, there's another one north of Miller Peak called Kristen Peak. Know anything about that one? http://www.peakbagger.com/peak.aspx?pid=-24117

Just curious, thanks :D

Neither Peak has an official name in the eyes of the USGS, but of course a lot of peaks don't.

Kristen is fairly commonly used or at least I've heard it mentioned multiple times.

Kat's Crew is a new one on me. Sounds like somebody just wanted to pop a name on something. (I think Kat's Crew is right next to Hikin' Jim Peak which is just across the way from Danny Man Mountain) ;)

Interestingly, Peakbagger omits Divide Peak which is right next to Luella Todd Peak (aka Landells Peak).

Hahaha, that's kind of what I was thinking as well. Kindda sucks that it allows people to just pop names like that!

I agree. If a peak doesn't have an official or commonly accepted name, then don't make up your own name - or even worse, name it after a friend of yours. Just use the elevation as the name: Peak 8,800+.

Agreed, where is the Chief of Peak Police when you need him?

There's a young man that has been giving names to peaklets and bumps on peakbagger.com. I think he's naming them for people he knows and hikes/climbs with. I don't think he or his partners have actually climbed up to the places he is marking, but I might be wrong there.

Yesterday I went up Coleman's Crag, traversed over to Sally's Summit, went down to Danny Man Mountain, threaded my way through the Bluerail Boulders, and then ascended to HJ's Heights, summitting Perry's Pinnacle (class 3). All legit names, I assure you. ;)
