Forum Get Together on 6/8 or 6/9?

I just walked the dog through the state park picnic area a couple hour's ago It's more bushy and spread out but smaller than The county park witch is flat and in a stand of pines with a bunch of tabels they both have wood/charcoal burning grilsl. If you wan't me to check on them for sunday and kinda look at them as a picknicker instead of a hiker passing through I can check both tomorow afternoon to see wich one has the best shade and tables. How many people do you expect. Also the nature center up on HWY 243 just out of town has tables and ???

The county park sounds ideal.

I know almost nothing about the layout of Idyllwild. Where is the county park?

HJ on the map you enterd A is the Nature center B is the state park and if you keep coming up the 243 from Banning for about 1/2 mile the next camp/ picnic icon is the county park it look's like a RD becouse it's quite big 90+ camp spots and a picnic area I think it's on Riverside county playground RD.

OK, so on this map, the county park is "C". Is that correct? Sounds like a nice spot although I've not been to any of them that I can recall (maybe the state one).

HJ yes it look's like C marks the spot. The @ is Idyllwild park 54000 Rverside County Playground Road Idyllwild Ca 92549 Phone 951-659-2656. I went by there and spoke to the person in the booth they said it's first come first serve it's $3 per person. The shady spot I liked has a double grill and the lady said I could show up early pay the $3 and push 4 picnic tables together to reserve the spot also there's a bathroom close. There is also a hilly nature trail that goes to the nature center and also around the park up on the hill next to it if anyone wanted to take a short 1 to 2 mile hike. It's no Skyline but t's a nice walk and kid's can do it also. Hope that helps.

The county park sounds nice. $3 is certainly very nominal.

Google maps seems to agree with 54000 Rverside County Playground Road Idyllwild Ca as corresponding to the spot on the topo map.

I am not going to be able to make it on Sunday because of family stuff. I talked to Ellen and we were thinking that if we don't get more folks coming maybe we should postpone it until Fall when Perry's baby is older and the weather is cooler - just a thought.

I still like the idea of doing it in Idyllwild.

The group will be more than welcome at the County Park. Great spot. My wife and I volunteer there. Wish we were going to be around tomorrow to join the group, but have prior committment. Enjoy.

Sounds like very few people can make it. Let's try for something in late-October or early November... Since we've never had a get-together in Idyllwild and Backwoods found a good spot, we can plan something at the County Park in the fall.

If anybody really really wants to see the baby and feels disappointed, please send a pm or email and we can meet for lunch somewhere tomorrow.

Hi everyone. Sorry to see it got canceled. I was hoping to pop in myself, especially when it was at Long Valley.

Anyway, here's my two cents. From our previous get-togethers it seems like the whole idea flows much more smoothly if it's tied in with everybody's normal hiking places and times. Moving it to Idyllwild might be a nice change of pace, but it might also keep some folks from being able to make it.

In October it's cool enough that we'll be doing Skyline, and the weather is nice enough down in Palm Springs by then that we could all come back down the tram and have a nice picnic in a park near the museum. There are a couple within just a few blocks. That way everyone is in the vicinity anyway, and if the baby isn't ready to ride the tram it won't pose a problem. One additional benefit is that we'd then have all our cars with us, so it would be much easier to do a pot luck and we could bring comfortable chairs (or maybe a hammock for the little critter HJ, if you'll recall the fun up at South Fork Campground). In any case, I'm no Idyllwild hater, it's a cool little town, but it is a longer drive and might be a limiting factor.
