Resuming Search 7/30-8/4

Postby maverick » Thu May 30, 2013 1:08 pm

Hello Everyone,

My name is Peter and we lost a fellow mountain man last year
in Oct in the Taboose Pass region of the Sierra. After the
official SAR effort a few of us at High Sierra Topix, where
I am a moderator (aka maverick), also went out looking for
several days for some sort of clue but were unsuccessful.
After going back and forth with SEKI NPS and Inyo NF for the
last few months they have allowed our request to search in Kings
Canyon and Inyo has waived the quotas on Taboose Pass.
We are looking for more experienced backpackers to volunteer for
this humanitarian search effort so we can bring closure for his
family and friends.

Info on the search can be found here: http://www.highsierratopix.com/communit ... f=1&t=8867

If you are interested in participating please contact me at
pagoston@prioryca.org

Thank You,
Peter

Peter/Maverick,

I'm not sure what my schedule will look like in July/August (I'm a contractor, and I never know when I'll be able to find work), but I wish you every success. From personal experience, it's a terrible thing to not know.

If I am available, I'd love to participate. I've been to Bench Lake and over Pinchot Pass before and even done some XC to bypass Mather Pass and get over to Palisade Creek via Amphitheater Lake and Cataract Creek. Never bought a GPS, but I'm pretty good with map and compass. Comfortable on Class Three as long as the rock is fairly solid (it typically is in the Sierra) and the exposure isn't overmuch.

Inyo and Sierra Madre SAR went up this past weekend and found
Larry's shoe at the top of the pass not to far from the trail.
SEKI is looking now, hopefully there will be closure soon for
all involved.

Oh, wow. That's a pretty strong lead, but of course not a good sign.

May they find him soon.

I'm glad to see that Larry has been positively found, but saddened of course to hear that it is confirmed that he has passed.

Thanks for updating us here and on HST. If you have time and if it's appropriate, I hope you'll put further updates on HST.
