Moving day for the CCC

You know, the thing is that the CCC does a lot of good work, and somehow somebody (who is probably well intentioned but a bit misguided) gets this "great" idea to use those mechanized devices and suddenly here we are. I agree that I don't love pack animal donations of processed hay, but at least they're natural in some sense of the word. And the horses themselves weren't native to North America, but they're at least beasties that have been here for a while...

It is my understanding that the law says in a wilderness area trail crews can't fire up a chainsaw for a few minutes to cut a log blocking the trail. Okay, that's not very efficient, but I default to the cautious side when it comes to taking care of the wilderness. So if the law won't let you use a chainsaw, it's still okay with you using a 500lb monster that, even with a well meaning driver doing the best he can to keep it smooth, can still chew up the trail and any other place it goes? What?

I'm wondering how a good crew can get this far off the right path? How is the law interpreted to mean two different things?

It's an issue of state wilderness vs. federal. In a federal wilderness, there are a lot of restrictions. Apparently not in a state wilderness.
