Memorial Day and Baldy

Postby drndr » Mon May 27, 2013 11:52 am

Did a round trip up and down Register Ridge with my son and the trip was fantastic with just a cool breeze.

2 weeks ago went up RR for the first time and went down Ski Hut. This time just for a comparison of times went back down RR. I will choose the throngs of people on the Ski Hut trail as opposed to the steepness of RR. I'm sure I will feel the punishment on my knees and hips tomorrow.

BUT!, Had I not gone back down RR I would have missed seeing Ellen on the Backbone. We have crossed paths a few times but never chatted so was great being able to stop and say Hello and tell her how much I always enjoy her online adventures.

Howdy All :)

It was so nice to meet Dan and his son 8) They were moving faster than anyone else I met on the mountain yesterday

It was absolutely beautiful on top. I loved the American flags by the metal sign.

Like Dan, I'd rather deal with the throngs of folks coming down via Ski Hut versus going down Register Ridge.

I took my time on the descent as I didn't want to slip and try to catch myself with my injured, braced wrist. I ran into a lot of really nice folks as well as neat dogs. A record sighting of three Border Collies.

Per custom, I treated myself to lunch at PF Changs in Rancho Cucamonga then made the mistake of going to REI to both return and purchase gear. The Anniversary Sale was in full swing  Sure made the Ski Hut trail look quiet by comparison

After surviving my REI experience, I went next door to BevMo! to purchase a single malt Scotch (how did this post go from hiking to Scotch  ).

Miles of smiles,
Ellen
