Tram closed for bike race

Postby tramtim » Mon Apr 29, 2013 4:51 pm

For all you weekday hikers, Monday May 13, 2013 the Tram will be closed all day for the Amgen bike race. The Tramway is the finish of stage 2 Murietta to the Valley Station 126 mile, they say that it will take about the same time as some of our regulars skyliners around 5 hours. The Tram will back to regular operation on Tuesday the 14th.

Stay safe and start early

Thanks for the reminder. I'll try to post a sign at the museum trailhead that the tram is closed that day so no unprepared hikers are expecting a ride down.

I saw a sign that Highway 74 will also be closed this day, as well. I don't know what hours but will add them when I find out.

I put up a couple of signs at the museum trailhead this morning reminding people that the tram will be closed on Monday.

Florian,

Very considerate of you. I hiked the trail on Thursday, saw only one other hiker, about 6:00am. When I walked into Long Valley, I saw nobody, heard nobody, first time in my experience. Had several minutes of terror thinking that perhaps the tram had closed for the day, until I ran into somebody. Simply a slow day. Very slow.

Hard to imagine what those riders must have to deal with with the weather today.

Tram road really spread the group out Brett, most of them looked like were about to collapse from the heat. I'm suprised more didn't pass out. Really impressive what they can endure.. great seeing you on the trail the other day, hope you found a good spot to sleep. We got pretty chilly.

I saw the sign Florian, and wondered what kind soul had posted it. :) Good for you and thank you.

I agree Steve, it's incredible to me that more of those guys didn't pass out. At three o'clock that blacktop is like an overheated pancake griddle. I can't imagine how they did it but I take my hat off to 'em.

Almost every one of them looked like they were in a very bad space as they went by, many unable to easily stay upright, it was an exhaustion I've never really witnessed before. Truly amazing what they did.
