Conditions to peak

General Palm Springs area.

Howdy all,

rather than start a new topic, how are the conditions from the trails from the 243 to LRV and then to the peak? Hoping for trails to be clear of snow. I want to do an overnighter next weekend, either fuller ridge or deer springs to LRV overnight, then to the peak and back down the next day. I have been up once on the tram and did 2 nights backpacking last year.

thanks

We started off on the Marion Mountain Trail to Little Round Valley, then to the peak on Saturday. Hit a few patches of snow on the trail, nothing that wasn't very easily passable. No snow at LRV that I can recall.

Beantown,

All the trails are, for all intents and purposes, completely clear. There is a patch or two of snow between the Fuller Ridge junction and LRV, but not an impediment at all. Did the traverse from Marion Mtn. to the tram and back again this weekend, and saw people at LRV camping and the first batch of thru hikers were coming through. Both Fuller and Deer Springs are clear. What snow I reported at the top of the thread from the weekend of the 21st was reduced by 50 percent or more, so I expect by next weekend, should be even clearer.

Three of us did H2P (Humber to Peak) on Saturday and had a great day. Very little snow encountered and that was easily dealt with. We too had the trails almost to ourselves, we must have had different start times. I'll write up a better TR report. Also watched the chopper from Wellman's Cienega on down and the Humber Park road was full of fire and rescue vehicles but I haven't seen any headlines or reports on the incident.

I'll keep an eye out for your camera.

Thanks!

OldnSlow - we started just after 8 and weren't exactly tearing it up, so if you started earlier we probably didn't catch you. In fact, a couple passed us at the divide when we were taking a snack break. Maybe 1130?

We stepped off at 7:55. After Saddle Junction one of our party (there were three of us) really slowed down. We think a new medication of his is affecting his stamina.

But we enjoyed the beautiful day and all three of us made the entire route.
