LOL Zippety!
I remembered a story SEH DAD--my friend, about ten years ago, had a ML encounter while coming down the Round Valley trail. What happened (this was the detail I'd forgotten) was that while hiking, she heard what she thought was a woman screaming. Alarmed and with her adrenaline pumping, convinced that a woman was being attacked, she raced thirty or forty feet down the trail, rounded the corner, and found herself ... at one point of a twenty foot equilateral triangle, the other two points of which were a mountain lion, and a deer. Apparently, she had interrupted a ML about to make a kill. What happened next was a forty five minute standoff, in which my friend would try to back up the trail, only to be stopped by the ML growlilng--probably at this point the ML wasn't sure who was the prey, or if my friend was a competing predator trying to take his deer from him. The ordeal only ended when some other hikers came down the trail and the ML finally backed off. But the point here is, my friend thought she heard a woman screaming. I"m not sure why the ML would scream during a hunt or before making a kill--maybe it frightens the prey?

Those long miles on the trail can get to you, especially around 4:00 a.m. Even the best of us gotta let out the pain once in a while. I've heard him scream like that when he came across a place where someone had made a new shortcut on Skyline. He's pretty sensitive about that.
