Summer is coming - watch out for the heat in the desert

20 degrees warmer on the east side of the San Gorgonio Pass than on the west side today. Only 94 in Thermal, but a flat 1.5 mile walk with that sun radiating up from the sand felt pretty warm. Anyway, be careful if you hike in the heat.

Check out this USA Today article where the reporter is standing next to a thermometer reading 80 degrees when the air temperature is really in the 20's!

Imagine if it added over 50 degrees to a desert traveler when it's over 100 degrees outside in the shade... Who knows, it just might. I swear I've been in a Costco parking lot in the summer and it had to be close to 150!
