Trail Conditions weekend of Feb 16-17

Postby tolsen » Fri Feb 15, 2013 12:34 pm

Has anyone been up to the summit in the past couple of days? Thinking about taking a hike up there from the tram this weekend and wondering if I can get by with microspikes and poles. The State Parks department said ice axe and crampons are required in Round Valley, I'm hoping this is not the case? Anybody have any words of wisdom?

Thanks!

I've tried calling the Long Valley ranger station several times to day and haven't gotten through to a person.

I'll try calling a few more times and post what they have to say here. Maybe you can do the same?

I was not up to the summit but it is an easy walk without snowshoes to either RV or Tamarack. I was up on Friday 2-15 and walked to Tamarack, then snowshoed XC over to RV. had lunch then aled back down. nice day--- and hardly anyone out on the trail. looked like there was some trails headed up towards the peak in Tamarack but we XD'd over to RV around 9100'. You dont need an ice axe in RV dont know what they are talking about.

I managed to summit Saturday. I saw a few boot tracks the entire way, as well as spots where they were breaking though. We mostly followed the Sid Davis route.

I did see lots of people carrying ice axes. Not sure what they were up to (training maybe?).
