5th Year Anniversary Skyline Hike

Postby Ellen » Mon Feb 04, 2013 11:32 am

Howdy All :)

Superbowl weekend was my 5th year anniversary of my snowshoeing misadventure on San Jacinto. The Craigmeister suggested spending several nights in the summit and eating sardines and cream of chicken soup, but I didn't feel up to a re-enactment  Since Sally and I had just snowshoed to the summit on Wednesday, I opted to celebrate by hiking Skyline with friends on Sunday instead.

It was a beautiful day thanks to the clouds and mist over San Jacinto, the desert and the Santa Rosas. My legs were toast but Sally was happy to climb at my slower pace. As usual, I perked up after we had fueled up at St. Florian's cache and started the grinding climb out of Flatrock.

By the traverse, we were hiking in mist. I couldn't believe the amount of snow melt off compared to when Craig and I went up on Monday. We put microspikes on past Coffman's for security, but most folks just booted it up.

It was great to see and hear familiar folks on the trail -- Indie Jack, Hengst Joe, Liz, Sally, Janine, David, Diana, Speedy Steve and Patti. Thanks so much to Indie Jack for shuttling Liz's car to the tram station so we didn't have to pay for a taxi and to Liz and Sally for treating me to fabulous lunch at Las Casuelas.

Thanks again to RMRU, this forum and my family for my continued presence on this earth and this forum 8) Continuing to wish everyone Miles of Smiles :D

From the heart,
Ellen

That is funny. Glad you are doing well and hiking strong. Have you eaten sardines since?

Someone busted out Sardines at the campfire on Sat night in JT and the first thought that came to my mind is "Ellen" eating them for a day-an-a-half on San J during that adventure the day we met. So glad that we've had adventures since that time to realize how precious life is - keep up all the great adventures and we will get out together soon :D

Wow, it's been 5 years?! Good thing you healed up so well, look at all the miles you've covered since then! What would you have done with all that energy? Not to mention all the fun and adventure you've gotten into. As tough as that time was, I bet Patrick is right in that it probably really made it clear just how precious this gift of life is. Happy Anniversary!

Ellen, had you not survived that ordeal, I would never have gotten to meet you and would have missed out on so much. Thanks for being alive and being my friend!
