A Journey Up the Skyline Trail

General Palm Springs area.

Thanks! I think you'll like the Dragon's Head, although I hope you get better weather than I did. I could only see maybe 50 feet. On a clear day, one should be able to see 50 miles or more.

I have never and may never do PCT, but Jim's report really made it much more real which is cool given its frequent presence in the forum. Congrats on a life list acheivement!
The difference between a good hike and a bad one is usually just a reflection of what I bring with me.

Hi HJ, I just read your much anticipated Skyline TR. Great narration and pictures. Thanks for telling it like it is.

Congratulations again on a great job! I'm still wishing I could have been there to greet you at the top!

Thanks, Ellen. I appreciate that remark since it comes from someone who knows the route well. Hopefully I've conveyed a sense of what the route is and is not.

Cool... Um, wait. Does this mean I have to do another 8,000' of gain first?

That would have been fun, but at least I got to see you at the potluck -- and I got to bring Joyce that time (which is not something I'm going to do up Skyline!).

I did at least get to see "Skyline Sally," but it just wasn't the same.

OK, so a little bit of hiking irony here: Yesterday, I went to the San Antonio ski hut (and stopped there) carrying my daughter, a gain of only 2000'. I did Skyline the weekend before. I swear, and I'm completely serious here, I am more sore after carrying my daughter up and back to the ski hut in the snow than I was after doing 8000' of gain on Skyline a week before. I'm freaking tired today.

HJ

P.S. And the absolute worst thing about doing Skyline last weekend? The freaking traffic from West Los Angeles to Palm Springs. About 4.25 hours drive.
