No problem for an extremely disciplined person like me. Besides, I don't own a GPS.

Looking forward to it!

Howdy HJ :)

Your virgin voyage up Skyline is turning into an event worthy of it's own name 8) I haven't seen this much excitment on the board since the inaugural back to back Skylines in the fall of 2009. Even the ellusive Z-dude is making an appearence :D

I want to be the first to buy you at beer at the tram bar to celebrate.

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

I printed it out (4x10) and it will serve my purposes. If you want to message your email address, I could try enlarging it and emailing it to you. The image is 300 dpi... I'm not sure how much quality will drop with the enlargement.

Route finding shouldn't be too much of an issue for you coming up from Ramon Road. The trail up from the museum is a pain though. There are a few offshoots on Ramon (I hiked it last Saturday), but for the most part I stayed to the left and that was the correct route.

Thanks!

I could be wrong, but I thought the rock were the ones you see as soon as the trail levels off after climbing up from Coffman's Crag... as in "Halleluja, I'm DONE." I could be wrong though. As for the other landmarks, I'm not sure what they are either.

For the most part, the map isn't helpful for route finding or that sort of thing, but it's nice to know if you're headed in the right direction. A couple of weeks ago we got to the museum/n. lykken/ skyline junction and we went down lykken for a 1/4 mile before we started thinking we were on the wrong trail.

The biggest reason for my taking it this week is for the timing tables. If we start at 2am, we have to do skyline in 8 or less hours if we want to summit and not be coming down in the dark.

Yep. Those jumped right out at me. I added another column for a 10 hour ascent. I figure I'll be between 10 and 11 hours on my first Skyline, so a 10 hour timeline should give me a good indicator as to how I'm doing.

Dang, if I don't make it, I'll never live this down. Of course the up side of not making it is that I might get to meet some of our fine friends in the RMRU in person. (Of course I'll do everything possible to make sure I meet them under other circumstances!)

I accept! (wow, my motivational level just went through the roof!)

Bring a book though. Since someone is opening their home to me, I'm going to try to get some sleep, so I'm starting at ~0400 and hoping for a 10 hour ascent, which puts me on top somewhere around 2:00 PM (very approximate estimate). I'm not offended if you need to get on with your day, although I'd love to see anyone who wants to stop by. Hey, if I get to see friends, it's completely worth doing Skyline. Shoot, if it gets everyone together, maybe I'll do Skyline more often.

I haven't done this trail in a few years because I prefer going places most people don't but this Saturday might be a fun time to get out there.

Nah, I think I'll head out to the middle of nowhere. That way I won't have to wake up as early.

Well, I'm as ready as I'm going to be. I head out to a conference at UCLA in the morning, and then straight to the Palm Springs area from UCLA tomorrow afternoon. Not sure if I'll get internet access tomorrow or not. Wish me luck. :)

Howdy All :)

Looking forward to celebrating "Hikin's Jim Inaugural Skyline" tomorrow at the Palm Springs tram bar :D

Hope to see some of you there. I'll hike Skyline first to burn off the requisite calories for the post hike party 8)

Ellen
