General Palm Springs area.

Spanky and the short cuts

WOW!!! I never expected to see so many responses on this issue.
I too am responsible for some of those short cuts that I started many years ago but I think because I usually hiked by myself, it didn't make any impact.I agree, that we are not targeting any specific group. We are all involved in this and I have to say that Steve and Fernando and Scott have all done a good job of trying to fix some of the more obvious trail damages. Like Scott, I too have put stones and branches on the short cut trails only to have them trampled on. I will continue to do it. One of the really bad areas is past "The Enchanted Gardens". If you go past that area over to the next hill you will see a set of switchbacks and over the years a lot of us have gone straight up and avoided the right hand turn that stays on the trail. There is a set of stones acting as a barrier and it still never ceases to amaze me how people still keep walking right over it., Once you take that short cut you will see that the trail is almost down to nothing. Its one of the worst hit areas I have seen on this trail. Not
sure if we can fix that. Maybe Fernando can bring up some cement
and build up that area (lol) Thanks to all of you who are trying to do the
right thing

Actually, I think this thread got a little bit too much of the wrong energy. Well in any case, I hope people think about what they're doing and if they really are getting any benefit out of some of the cuts or are just causing more damage..

Have a nice weekend on the trail everybody.

Btw....anybody wanna toss some rocks on there help yourselves ::)
