You are more than welcome to break up the drive by spending Friday night at Coleman basecamp in Riverside. I live less than an hour from the museum parking lot. Only downside -- my cats and/or Sheltie may want to visit you during the night

HJ, don't forget I live in Cat City--from my house it's about twenty minutes drive to TH. You are more than willing to crash in the 'guest room' (i.e. my son's room--he's gone on weekends.) PM me. I likely will be doing some section of Skyline (prbly to 5k) on sat myself, but starting (much) later-- I literally get ill when I try to hike super early. But no reason why you couldn't stay at my house and leave ahead of me. Let me know.

That's why I keep ear plugs in my tent - for whoever gets stuck as my buddy! My reverberations scare off cougars and coyotes pretty well.

HJ: Wow, looks like there will be lots of friends there to share this momentous occasion with you. I'm hoping to make it myself. I've been so busy with other adventures and work that I haven't even done Skyline this fall, so it will be fun to see everyone and revisit one of my favorite trails and get to celebrate your first Skyline with you at the same time. By the way, I think you'll especially enjoy the early section when you look down on Palm Springs in the dark with all the lights below you, and then as the eastern sky slowly brightens before dawn...It's fun no matter what, but you're starting at the ideal time to enjoy it to the fullest! I found someone to do Skyline with me Saturday and will hopefully make the push to the peak. Not sure if we'll see you on the trail Hikin_Jim, as we will be starting early (2am) and from Ramon Road.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a cheap hotel Friday night?
