Saw this on the CV hikers blog ...

http://www.mydesert.com/viewart/2012112 ... ar-tramway

Hiker found near tramway in the headline, yet also found at the Black Mtn campground north (?) of Palm Springs, and then he was "escorted" back to the C2C trailhead. Wow.

Oh my goodness, that's the craziest reporting I've seen yet! Nearly fell off my chair laughing!

It's simple:
He went up the Wellmans Slide Trail to Little Round Marion, cut across to the Seven Strawberries Trail and then came down Fuller Caramba -- which really pissed off the DWA since that's clearly on their land. Got it?

Yeah, I saw that too. Incredibly annoying. The DS consistently screws up their reportage of hiking stories. How hard can it be to get a freaking map of Mt. San Jacinto State Park?

Seems Desert Sun was actually no worse than normal. The story I've heard is that the hiker in question started at the Ramon trailhead, did a C2C and then made a wrong turn heading down from the peak and ended up on Fuller Ridge.

Ah. I see what you're saying. I half wondered if that had happened although how the heck someone could get all the way over to the Black Mountain area and not realize that they were seriously off track is beyond me.

The headline is in total conflict (in hiker miles) with where he was found though:
Palm Springs hiker found near tramway
Maybe to a newspaper editor Black Mtn is near the tram?
