Skyline/C2C maps

I thought these maps might be useful to other people, so I put them online: http://www.lightandmatter.com/misc/c2c.html They're USGS topos with various stuff drawn on top. If the local experts want to suggest corrections or additions, that would be great! For example, I'm not certain that I have the various features on Skyline at exactly the right locations or marked with exactly the right elevations.

The black and red GPS tracks are other people's, and give some idea of how ill-defined the trail is. The red one is one that Ze posted. I can't remember where I got the black one.

Below 1600', I also put in some trail info traced fro an image of a sign at one of the trailheads. This covers Lykken and, suppsedly, the part of Skyline from the museum to the picnic tables. But the wide switchbacks they show on this part of Skyline seem to bear no relation to the much more direct route up the ridge shown in the two GPS tracks. Do these switchbacks actually exist?

I've marked in a trail I saw yesterday south of the Round Valley Meadow. What the heck is that? It's very wide and visually obvious, but I don't see it on either the USGS topo or the map they give out at the tram station. I think it may have confused me in the past, especially in snow, because I thought it was the junction where you'd turn off to head toward Hidden Divide.

Does anyone have an opinion on what range of elevations people mean when they refer to the Traverse? Are they referring to the part where you approach the base of Coffman's Crag, the part where you turn and head up to the tram, or both of those?

In addition to rescue 1 and rescue 2, there is a white bucket for emergency water that I don't remember seeing before. Does anyone have an elevation or UTM coordinates for that?

In an effort to avoid luring people to their deaths, I've put warnings and pointers to information both on the web page and on the Skyline map.

Pretty cool maps (I like maps). Not a route expert, so I won't comment as to exact placements, but they're certainly informative.

Nice running into last Saturday

That is St. Florian's cache at 5.8 K, about a 0.5 miles before Flatrock. It has a great view of San Gorgonio.

Lately I've been stopping at Florian's Cache for a snack rather than Flatrock because it's easier to get going afterwards. Although I love hanging out with friends at Flatrock, I hate going up the quad and calf burner after sitting for 15 minutes.

Went up Skyline on Halloween with Sally. We experienced tricks (it was hot with NO breeze) but no treats. However, I always love spending time with Sally, so I guess that was the treat. It appears that a playful goblin has been at work on the trail

I'm heading back up on Saturday to experience Rush Hour Hiking with the Hoardes.

While Sally and I were enjoying brunch at St. Florian's Cache, two gentlemen passed us. The first hiker was new to Skyline. The second hiker was Steve (can't recall his last name) but we've crossed paths before.

You'll probably have the trail mostly to yourself -- enjoy
