Spring water at Round Valley need pumping?

The sign at the spring says the water should be pumped. I never have, and don't understand why it is there. Anyone know?

I am taking some folks up there and want to tell them more than "trust me".

I understand that the State Park can't/doesn't guarantee the quality of the water, hence the sign. The source has been "contaminated" in the past.

There's a water tank that feeds that pipe. One time when they did maintenance on the tank, they discovered animals of genus rattus that had drowned, presumably while trying to drink, floating in the water. Drink up if you like.

I've consumed it for over 25 years without a problem. If there is an issue I guess I'm immune.

Me too. Never had a problem. But if you want to be safe, get a Camel-Bak All-Clear UV water purifier. Basically a Steri-pen on steroids, super simple to operate, in 60 seconds you have 750 ml of sterilized water.
Recharges via USB cable like a phone. Much lighter and much less hassle than a filter
