Saturday Sept 1

Howdy All :D

The Weather Channel indicates that the low for Palm Springs will be 88 with a high of 112 and the chance of isolated tbunder storms this Saturday.

While I had wanted to do Skyline, I really don't want to earn my nickname as a Dead Blond Hiking or become a Corpus Crispy (hilarious description provided by Z-dude). Walt's 12 mile loop from the tram sounds good.

What are other folks doing this Saturday?

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

Hmmm. What time would you start? First tram is at 8:00, right?

Yes -- the first tram is at 8 AM. I hope you can make it 8) Hiking with other people is always more fun.

Can you point me to Walt's post or describe the route?

I think it's Longs Valley - Hidden Divide - Willow Creek Crossing - Saddle Junction - Wellman Divide - Round Valley - Longs Valley.

Sounds like fun, but I have to clear this with my fiancee first of course. :)

Is anyone thinking of doing Skyline on Saturday. If Udi cancells, then I might too. If there is cloud cover it might not be so bad.

Howdy Jim :D

Your description of Walt's route is right on 8)

Howdy Cy :D

I hope that Udi cancels. I doubt the heat affects him as much as it does me due to his higher aerobic capcity.

I already have notoriety on the board as Bloody Blond Hiking  I certainly don't want to meet my ancestors, be discussed on this forum, or appear in the news due to a Skyline fiasco.

I promise to bring Smarties on my next hike

Hi Cy, Ellen, Jim...

Cy, I was thinking about Skyline, but with the heat I'll probably just do the San G ridge on Sunday. I also like the loop on San J, but the first tram doesn't start til 8:00 and I like to be done by around 10;00.

Ellen:
I might be headed back up to the Sierras this weekend after all! Woohoo! But I'll keep an eye for the next C2C. I have a bone to pick with that trail.

You cant beat the Sierras. - Enjoy. The next c2c is Sept 8 at 2.30 am with four people going, then on Sept 10 the Tram is closed for maintenance until Sept 21. Its supposed to be quite a bit cooler next week. There is a full moon on Sept 29 th which would be another good time to go - Yippiyaiyokayay!. The Mount Baldy 13 Peak Loop which includes Pine and Dawson is also on Sept 29 th. There are lots of bail out points.
Ellen and Jim - If my trip to Skyline this Saturday does not go, I might see you on the Tram at 8 am.
Here is an interesting thread on how much liquid you drink on a hike.

I still have to get "approval" on my travel plans. Michiko wants to go to the H'wood Bowl this weekend (so do I, but I don't need to go on Saturday night). She and I should be able to talk this evening. If she says "yes" to Sunday night at the Bowl, then I'm good to go for Saturday hiking. Saturday night is 1812 Overture with fireworks. Not sure I can dissuade her from that one. :)

Whether it's this weekend or another, I'll be up there and hopefully we can hike for a while together (until my slow pace forces you to move on ahead). :)

October is just around the bend. Who knows, maybe I'll have a case of temporary insanity and try Skyline. I hear RMRU needs some practice ... (kidding). :D
