The Skyline is steeper and thus puts more stress on your system than the PCT. It's the difference between walking up a ramp and walking up stairs. The Skyline is more dangerous because you are more prone to cramping and heat prostration due to the steepness of the climb. That's my assessment of why it's tougher. You definitely spend less time on the trail on Skyline because it's shorter but the stress on the body is greater.

Not do diminish the dangers in hiking Skyline in summer but i was just thinking there hadn't been many rescues/deaths up the trail this summer.

True, but the latest RMRU mission that lipbiter is referring to is a classic -- a classic of lack of preparation. A 7:00 AM start on a 110F day by a soloist that had never been before on the route, carrying only 2 liters of water. I get the impression that he really had no idea what he was getting into. If I'm reading the write up correctly, he only got up to 3500'.

He's danged lucky the RMRU exists. Danged lucky.
