New Fence

Nice bright orange fence they put up to keep people out of the sensitive area by a lake that is hidden & about a mile & a half south of the tram. What are they protecting there?? Not the scenery.
Get out of that damn contraption & walk!

The endangered blue-curled flower. Maybe amphibians also (i.e., yellow spotted frog). Anybody else can chime in on this?

They are probably protecting their own private playground. I doubt any of the "authorities" are staying out of the area.

I noticed the fence last week. Signs on the fence say "Area Closed: Hidden Lake Trail Under Construction" and there does appear to be a trail under construction leading over to the fence from the main trail now.

If funding came through they will be building a boardwalk around the banks

Not sure what to think about this. Sounds secretive. On the one hand, a boardwalk might reduce impact on vegetation from hikers. On the other hand, I could see the possibility of an increase in foot traffic. Kids would want to jump off the boardwalk and play in the water, and they would step on bluecurls.

Maybe I should disable the auto word censor on this topic?

Maybe it will be far enough up the trail to keep the silly traffic away, but it is a unique area and should be able to be appreciated by those that would...its a real touchy situation.....I definitely hope it stays off maps.

I'm sure they worry about the weather station being used as a jungle gym too.

I wonder if an orange fence doesn't call attention to a feature? Maybe they're building a viewing platform? Not that there's much to see there most of the time. Personally, I'd rather see it left as is.
