Welcome to our message board Laura. If you were tired and was moving that well to catch us and then pass us and keep going along the ridge, heaven help anyone trying to keep up with you when you are frisky. :)
I never knew you were a physical therapist. Its always handy to have someone like that along with you especially on Skyline or c2c. I think its a great idea for you to have your own website. There are a few computer savvy people on this website. Ellen - There were no Smarties on this trip. Not to worry, Your company made it a great trip.

baldy village trail is still one of my favorites. The trail is short but steep, and the vegetation just after bear flats is a bit thick. Reminds me of walking through a maze.

Cy Kaicener wrote:Ellen and I started from Baldy Village at 5.40 am after leaving a car up at Manker Flats to ease the journey back. It took us four and three quarter hours to reach the summit which is 5800 ft elevation gain. We met up with the Mt Whitney.info message board group who were doing the three T's as well as running the whole ridge. After noon there were spectacular thunder clouds building up from the West. It was a treat to hike with Ellen, and Laura who had both returned from climbing 14000 ft peaks in Colorado and the High Sierra.

Sounds like an excellent hike. It may have worked out for the best for me, still fighting a very dogged cold, to not have done Baldy via Bear Canyon. I did Mt. Lukens via the Sister Elsie Trail, which is about a 3000' gain over 3.5 miles (although the first mile or so is an approach on a relatively gently graded fire road so the elevation gain is back loaded). I was huffing a bit and was off my regular pace by 15+ minutes per mile, although some of that slowness may have been caused by the trail being seriously overgrown in places. Regardless of why I was so slow, I'm sure I would have held you all back on Baldy, which would not have been good.

Hey Jim, see if you get a rebound effect on that. I've experienced it a couple of times when I've exercised when I was sick. Once, I didn't feel so good, but went anyway. It felt like the longest 4 hours of my life . . . when I got home, I found out I had 102.8 fever, which explained the soggy feeling I had the whole time.

I didn't do anything for a couple of days, but when I went back out, everything felt wonderful. I think the contrast from the previous workout being so horrible made things seem so much better. I sure felt great.

Sounds like you toughed it out even when you were under the weather, so good job. Hopefully you'll enjoy the rebound next time out.

I've actually experienced that "rebound" before too. Sometimes the body appreciates a rest. Cool!

A$$ on a platter

Postby Ellen » Tue Aug 28, 2007 1:03 pm

Howdy Laura :D

Welcome to Skyline addicts anonymous 8)

Thanks for the badly needed humor -- I LMAO. When you're tired of being a PT, try stand-up comedy -- you're a natural  I could have used a platter on Bear Canyon as well.

I'll likely pass on Skyline this Saturday (see the Saturday Sept 1 post). I'll have to wait to break in my skull and cross bones bandana

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

What? Nobody headed up the C2C trail? The weather is just perfect for a hike that starts in Palm Springs - it might be a good idea to start after the sun comes up too and not carry too much water to weigh you down.

Just kidding - the baldy trail would be hell enough in this heat/smog. :)
