Anybody going Saturday, 8/25?

Postby zippetydude » Mon Aug 20, 2007 11:24 am

I just might go up this weekend or next - I prefer to time summer ascents with others on the trail (to reinforce the safety factor for both). So...anyone heading up?

I know of five people that have expressed an interest in going on 9/1 and four on 9/8.

Hi Cy. What are the dates of the Tram closure? The 8th sounds like it might land during the down time.

8/31 - 9/2

Leaving the tram 8/31 - heading to Round Valley for two nights, then back out Sunday.

If you go on the 25th, I would love to know what the water and weather situation looks like.

Skyline Aug 25?

Postby Ellen » Thu Aug 23, 2007 9:44 am

Howdy experienced Skylies :D

Any experienced Skylie considering doing Skyline this Saturday? I was going to ride the tram up and do a loop, but am shifting plans due to the fire.

The Weather Channel gives a high of 104 and a low of 85 (at about 4 AM). If I go, I would leave about 3 AM. Due to the heat, I would look for about a 7 hour ascent.

My legs are healed up from Tamarack  and got me up Whitney on Aug 10 and the Pike's Peak Ascent on Aug 18.

My alternate plan is to go up Baldy via Bear Canyon.

Hi Ellen - I will be doing Skyline on Sept 1 and Sept 8 and Baldy from Baldy Village (Bear Canyon) on Sat Aug 25 at 5 am if you want company. I will probably return from Baldy via the Ski Lift.

Howdy Cy :D

Thanks so much. I guess I could celebrate my birthday by hiking Sklyine on Sept 1

I bought the perfect bandana for Skyline -- black with white skulls and cross bones

At this point, doing Baldy or a San G hike sounds good. I love going up Bear Canyon but hate coming down :(

Ellen

We can drive up to Manker Flats and leave a car there, but meet at the village in front of the Ranger station. The Mt Whitney group is also leaving some cars up there for a shuttle at approximately the same time. The outdoorsclub is also going a little bit later.
