TR - Tahquitz Valley Loop

I'm lagging a bit on getting this up here, but I did an impromptu over-nighter on the Mountain on the 19th/20th. My general route was up the South Ridge Trail, South on the PCT to Red Tahquitz, cross country along the divide to Laws Junction, then through Tahquitz and SC Meadows and exiting Devils Slide. It was a great trip and spent a lot of time exploring the headwaters of Andreas Canyon on the edge of the forest.

Nice trip to a cool part of the mountain that doesn't get visited unless you're a balloon. I found a weather balloon out there once and your pictures make me want to go back out there soon.

Thanks, yes its definitely an area I plan on revisiting again and exploring some more. There's some awesome geological features, decent wildlife and the cross country travel is fairly easy, being a north facing slope with little undergrowth.

Its been a while, but i believe it was on clearance at Vons. It came in one of those heat and serve cups like cup o noodles.

here's a link that shows my basic route. I parked at A, camped at D, poked around a lot between D, E and F and made my way back to A.

Those footprints are mine and that surface is all similar to decomposed granite. That's one of the cool things about this area, your right on the edge of The Southern California Batholith and near the very edge of the valley above Andreas Canyon, the rock (tonalite or granodiorite I believe) is eroded away creating these gravel covered areas. There were quite a few deer tracks through there as well.
