That area has fascinated me for awhile. There's a big round rock up on the ridge, and the canyon looks like it has a lot of vegetation.

LOTS of vegetation. I got poison oak there one time. BAD.

Bridwell did some climbing there and there are some old pins in one of the side canyons. Jim said he thought they were put there by Charles Cole of Five Ten shoes.

The big rock on the ridge is on Cabezon Peak. It's said that Chief Cabezon lives underneath it and sometimes appears as a rabbit. I've always wanted to go up there but never have. It looks cool.

I wouldn't leave a car at the bottom.

Eww. Harumph.

Is that the one that looks like a nice dome south of the 10 surrounded by a jungle of thorny plants of hate and pain?

No, Onion Dome is much smaller than a grade VI. You may want to avoid that one due to it's proximity to Twin Pines Ranch Correctional Facility.

Hmmmm....bushwhacking does not sound fun.

It looks like there's a lot of mountain biking opportunities near Twin Pines.

I thought so too a few months ago...drove up there with my mountain bike in the back of my truck, then drove around for over an hour, staring at nothing but "No Trespassing" signs. Ended up going back out to the 243 and running up the Black Mountain Trail. Nice trail, though. LMK if you find a good mountain biking trail in there, though, and we can meet in the middle.

It might be worth looking into--or it might not--the old PCT headed down from Black Mountain Road toward Hurley Flat and then down to Cabazon. Portions of where it went are shown on various topos and it might be worth a search for an industrious mountain biker with a sense of adventure. Instead of coming down into Snow Creek, the trail came down into Cabazon. Now granted, this was 20 or 25 years ago and all remnants of the trail may be overgrown and gone but you never know...
