Skyline this Saturday -- who's on?

Howdy All :)

Can't resist the idea of an early morning Skyline with the Supermoon 8)

It's also Cinco de Mayo, which I understand is sometimes celebrated with the consumption of celebratory anesthetic beverages...

Would love to know who else will be on the trail.

Please keep in mind there will be no parking at the Desert Museum or the streets around the museum.

Ellen

We've got 4 starting about 1am from the Ramon trail head.

Not only is it a Supermoon but there are also some meteor showers - Eta Aquarids. Should be an amazing trip.

We're heading for the summit. See you out there!

Hi Ellen,
my friend and I are heading up a little later (before 5) - but can you elaborate on your comment about not parking in the Museum Lot or Surrounding streets? Should we head up from Ramon instead?

Thanks
Ron

I'll be starting at 3, not sure if my non-training buddy will go yet. If he does, probably 8+ hrs to tram. If he doesn't go, I'm planning on 6-6 1/2 hrs to tram, then after a nice rest and water refill, heading for the summit.
I've never taken the Ramon trail, so I may try to find somewhere around the museum to park, unless you all tell me that parking on Ramon is easy enough.

Also, I/we don't have snowshoes, just microspikes. Are we going to be completely miserable trying to get to the summit, or has the snow melted enough to be tolerable?

Sounds like there is going to be some peeps on the trail this week. When I did it 2 weeks ago, I was quite lonely. haha

party of 4

We have 4, possibly 3, heading up. Not sure what time, though. C2C is the goal, but I may take a shortcut known as the tram, then hike to the peak if this nagging back doesnt stop kvetching. Happy Trails, yall.

We have seven heading up around 4:15-4:30.. Going to try and find parking as close as possible to the Museum to take that trail up as opposed to Ramon.

Are the meteor showers going to be visible with the Supermoon being so bright though?

Howdy All :)

I will not be parking on Ramon due to the high incidence of car break-ins. I'll be parking in an undisclosed location and will head up from the Desert Museum between 4 and 5 AM. You can recognize me by my short blond hair, lack of tan, and scratched legs

Looks like at high of 95 and low of 70 in Palm Springs but not as humid as last Tuesday. There will be lots of radiant heat and little wind, so it will feel even warmer when the sun comes up. Just another reason to start early and enjoy the Supermoon event.

Tips for first time Skyliners and those not used to the desert heat:
In addition to adequate fluid (I'll drink a liter before starting and bring four liters of Gatorade Endurance), I will carry extra salt. A lot of folks I've been hiking with lately are cramping up in spite of consuming adequate water.

There is no water in the rescue boxes or anywhere else on Skyline.

My final destination is the tram 8) For those of you who are doing the full monty (desert>peak>tram), I doubt you'll need more than microspikes.

Miles of smiles,
Ellen
