I'm interested also in any GPS coordinates used in the wintertime. I've been up before in Winter, but only taking the main trail from the tram, summiting, then sorta glissading down into Round Valley. I'm heading up again on 4/28 (taking the tram likely) and I will be with my teenage daughter. It's her first time in snowshoes so any excuse to lessen the mileage, if we need to, would be appreciated. Thanks.

Unless this last storm dumped a ton of snow I doubt there is enough snow to warrant going that way with snowshoes. Regardless, anybody who wants a GPS track file is welcome to send me a PM with their email address. This board needs a upload/download area for that kind of thing...

I went up both days -- wanted to enjoy the rhime ice on the trees one last time this season. The San Jacinto hiking club broke in the Sid Davis and Ranger Overland route. On Saturday, I followed Krai and Florian up X-country and shrub shoed up to the Miller saddle. From there, we took the traditional winter route up the ridge to San Jacinto. The conditions were exquisite -- clouds, mist, rhime ice, flocked trees and an artic wind. All of us were so bundled up, anyone could claim to be in the summit picture.

On Sunday, Sally, I and a bunch of other folks took Saturday's route up to the gully next to Jean. Janine, Krai and Florian broke trail up to the ridge and we headed to Jean. What a difference in one day -- snow and ice were falling out of the trees and it was warm. The top of San Jacinto was perfect -- blue sky, puffy white clouds and only a slight breeze.

Sally, David and I headed over to bag Miller. On the way down, we took the north side of the Sid Davis drainage so we'd have snow. Once we crossed back over to the main trail, it was slushy and muddy. I doubt the recent snow will hang around for long.
