I'm not exactly sure who would be writing the article. I emailed 3 people.

Isn't there a major hiking organization in the Coachella Valley? It would probably be best to contact them and see if they have anyone who handles media relations. If they haven't already contacted the LATimes, work with them to develop the story in the form of a 'press release', then send that release to whoever at the LATimes covers Coachella Valley issues. Basically, you'll be writing the story for the LATimes; with the way they've cut back staff at the Times they probably won't send someone to investigate and write a story, but they would take 'copy' and possibly edit it (of course) for inclusion. Might also try buying a copy of the Times somewhere out in the C. Valley and see who the local staff is and if they have a contact phone or email. Look on the editorial pages or the first few pages of the front section for contact info.

If you haven't already written during this comment period please do. It ends tomorrow. This link has email address for the comments:

I don't understand how this is happening. If we lose section 36 to development it's going to really suck.

Haven't heard anything on this recently but this local news story shows just how trustworthy the current leadership of the Aqua Calientes are and how much the care about community opinion.

I agree with you, Hal, the direction the tribe is going in now is worrisome--their actions of late have been quite aggressive.

I have heard that the EIS regarding the proposed swap will be coming out in October or thereabouts. Let's keep each other posted.
