Great trip report and photos, calicokat! Alas, our trails fail to cross again. Hope to hike with you and Ellen sometime soon.

I'll keep prayin' for enough snow to cover that pesky brush.

For myself and my pal, it was our first snowshoe experience on Sat. Based on the ranger's advice we followed the main trail (although we were tempted to take the turnoff near the creek crossing). We donned our snowshoes at Round valley. Thanks to a person by name Mark we met on the trail. He was our trailblazer for the main trail. We followed his trail and managed to reach close to the 10000ft point. As it was already 3:00PM, myself and my pal decided to return back. Now looking at my GPS track and your track, it looks like we were short by 0.2mi. If I had seen your trail, we could tried for the summit and returned by the winter route.

Nevertheless, it was one of the best experiences I had and a great workout as well. I never imagined falling in a powder snow (on bushes) and getting up is an aerobic activity by itself. In the process I ended up doing couple of yoga poses as well. Best fun I had in recent times. I think this is the first of the many such snowshoeing to come.

Your TR on JMT had several references to the lack of wife.
Anybody, what is a good way to arrange a trail buddy for JMT?
So many people do it, surely there's no need to go solo if you prefer company.

I end up solo due to my wacko schedule and itinerary. I would miss the wife with or without a hiking buddy :o
