It's been warm. Watch for snakes. They're hungry and mean after winter.

Howdy St. Florian :)

Snakes...it had to be snakes...(quoting Indiana Jones)

Great -- as if I didn't have enough to worry about on Skyline

Howdy All :)

It was much warmer than I expected -- lots of radiant heat and no breeze. Quite a change after all my recent snowshoeing. At least I didn't encounter any snakes. The snow started after Flatrock. I donned microspikes at the beginning of the traverse and followed some nice, deep footprints -- thanks Speedy Steve 8) Ran into a group from Orange county at the tram who were fueling up to go to the summit. Two long time San Jacinto wilderness volunteers (Alan and Wanda) kindly gave me a ride to my car -- a big thank you :) It will be interesting to see how much new snow the incoming system dumps.

Sorry I missed you guys!

I came from San Diego so got a later start. I got a special treat though! I ran into Fern fixing Rescue box 2. He must of passed me when I took a wrong turn. Anyway, because of his marathon day (riding his bike from Indio, leaving it at the tram, running to the Skyline trailhead, doing Skyline, riding back home to Indio) he went a little slower than usual and he guided me to the top through the various detours (fallen trees from the massive wind event now infamous on this board). Also got to meet Diane who was taking a day off (Flat rock and back??)

So nice to travel in style with an expert! What a great day, except as Ellen said I was not expecting it to be so hot. I had to be careful not to overheat. And I didn't get to meet Ellen (yet).

PS I am getting dizzy thinking about Fern's day - hey i hope you got home OK! Thanks again!!

PPS Diane I didn't post pics but I think Fern gave you the reconnaissance

Howdy Carl F :)

Arrgh -- I can't believe I missed meeting you again :( One of these days...

Glad I'm not the only one who thought it was warm. Although the snow on the traverse made for slow going, I loved the cooler temperature. Considered making a snow angel.

Now I know why my hero InFerno didn't pass me on Skyline. He was doing a Quadathalon (bike, run, hike, bike).

Howdy 2600fromatari :)

I'm a polar bear. I love doing Skyline when the starting temperature is in the 40's and the high in Palm Springs stays below 70. Must be the Swedish ancestry.
